Pierre Boulez (born 1925) active as a composer, conductor and theorist, for nearly sixty years one of the most important figures of the music world. You may find him a follower of “double”, Vienna and Debussy tradition taken over from his teachers, Messiaen and Leibowitz. He individually developed Schönberg’s dodecaphony and textural innovations of Debussy in his music. His interests in theory can be reflected in his writing activity, and its coexistence with the composer’s practice has resulted in Boulez’s creating the famous IRCAM. His conductor’s skills are widely known, and among his best creations are the performances of Wagner’s dramas, Mahler’s symphony and works by Debussy and Ravel.
