Stephen Montague (born 1943)
studied composition in USA and – under the supervision of Włodzimierz Kotoński– at PWSM in Warsaw (the title of his work Varshavian Spring for choir and orchestra from 1980 refers to his stay in Poland). He has been living in London since 1975. He has composed, among others, for the BBC, Hilliard Ensemble, Elżbieta Chojnacka and Evelyn Glennie. His work is dominated by chamber music accompanied by electronics (Paramell I-VI cycle, 2 string quartets), nevertheless Montague also composes for large-scale compositions (2 pianos concerts, orchestral Form the White Edge of Phrygia).
