Elżbieta Chojnacka as a harpsichord professor inaugurated the 4th International Festival Musica Electronica Nova. Her “lecture” was held in the vast hall of the Faculty of Law at the University of Wrocław but primarily focused on the nature of the relations between the music of nature and the music of culture. A surprising background for the virtuoso performance by Chojnacka in half of the six pieces performed at the concert were frog croaks played from tape, the sound of wind and rain, the sound of cicadas, bird songs and human voices. The lyrical harpsichord parts played by Chojnacka had their counterpoints in bird songs or were rivalled by the croaks of an army of frogs hidden behind the speakers. So the inauguration featured a “master stroke” with compositions dedicated to Elżbieta Chojnacka along with a concert of the sounds of nature. What other surprises await us this week?
