IRCAM

IRCAM

the Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustics and Music, is one of the world’s largest public research centers dedicated to both musical expression and scientific research. A unique location where artistic sensibilities collide with scientific and technological innovation, Frank Madlener has directed the institute since 2006, bringing together over 150 people. IRCAM’s three principal activities — creation, research, transmission — are manifest in IRCAM’s Parisian concert season, in the institute’s annual Agora festival, and in productions throughout France and abroad.

Pierre Boulez founded IRCAM under the aegis of the Centre Pompidou and the French Ministry of Culture and Communication. Since 1995, the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, IRCAM, and the CNRS have come together to form the mixed STMS research lab (Sciences and Technologies for Music and Sound – UMR 9912), joined in 2010 by the university Pierre et Marie Curie (UPMC).
